Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup champion, the winner of 63 NASCAR Cup races, and holder of several NASCAR records, has suddenly passed away at the age of 41. The tragic news comes just hours after an announcement Thursday that Busch would miss this weekend’s Coca-Cola 600 due to a “severe illness resulting in hospitalization. ” Late on Thursday afternoon NASCAR released this statement, indicating that the driver had tragically passed away: We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport's greatest and fiercest drivers.

That season, he became the sport’s youngest-ever pole winner at the California Speedway in the Auto Club 500 at just 19 years and 317 days old. In a race at that track in the fall, he became the youngest winner in series history, claiming the Sony HD 500.

He moved to Joe Gibbs Racing for the 2008 season, and his 15-year tenure with the team was one of the most successful pairings in NASCAR history, as he secured 56 of his 63 Cup wins with Joe Gibbs Racing. During that time with Joe Gibbs Racing, Busch won both of his NASCAR Cup titles, first in 2015 and then in 2019. Following the 2022 season, Busch moved to Richard Childress Racing, and in 2023 he qualified for the playoffs, where he was eliminated after the Round of 12.
