KANSAS CITY — Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet (shoulder) threw two innings during an up-and-down bullpen session Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium. The 26-year-old lefty said he will throw a brief side session either Friday or Saturday, then he will throw his first live batting practice next week. Boston placed Crochet on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation on April 29 (retroactive to April 26).

“I feel like everyone that goes on the IL, it’s always a little longer than they want it to be,” Crochet said. “And I’m not exempt from that. I suppose it’s definitely taken longer than I hoped it would when I initially went on the IL, but it’s part of it right now.

I’m just trying to be a good cheerleader. ” He doesn’t feel great about his mechanics right now. “I still have a lot of boxes to check in terms of workload and time to really iron those things out,” Crochet said.

Crochet said he needs to work on the timing in his delivery. “I feel like I’ve been trying to hit a certain amount of checkpoints in my delivery, and I’ve kind of got way too much going on,” Crochet said. “So really right now I’m just trying to simplify it, create a good foundation from the first move of my delivery and then just let the arm follow along.

” His side session on Friday or Saturday will be brief. “Kind of like that between start bullpen, just short and sweet,” Crochet said. “Just touch the slope and get ready for the live.
