Here is what LSU is paying Ed Orgeron to return to the Tigers and join first-year coach Lane Kiffin's coaching staff.
BATON ROUGE – Lane Kiffin is brining back Ed Orgeron to LSU football . The first-year Tigers head coach has hired the former LSU head coach as a special assistant to defense and recruiting for his staff and program. Per records obtained by The Daily Advertiser, Orgeron and LSU officially agreed to a $100,000 contract that spans from May 21, 2026 through January 2027.
The term sheet was signed Thursday. Coach O , as he's affectionately known, will make roughly $5,000 per month helping Kiffin and his LSU staff with recruiting and the defense. LSU will also provide Orgeron a vehicle. The Daily Advertiser reported Wednesday that Kiffin hired Oregon to join his staff. As head coach, Orgeron guided the Tigers to the 2019 national championship and coached arguably college football's greatest offense of all-time that featured quarterback Joe Burrow.
He was fired less than two years after winning the title as LSU went 11-11 over the next two seasons. Over five-plus seasons, Orgeron had a 51-20 record as LSU's head coach. He was let go in October of the 2021 season.
