Dallas Mavericks 'expected' to consider Duke head coach Jon Scheyer
After parting ways with Jason Kidd, current Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer has emerged as a possible coaching candidate for the Mavericks.
Following Jason Kidd's departure from the Dallas Mavericks , many people around the league have wondered who Cooper Flagg's next coach will be. While there are many coaches with NBA experience looking for jobs, like Tiago Splitter, Billy Donovan and James Borrego, there's a chance that the Mavericks will consider a current college coach. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Mavericks are "expected" to reach out to Flagg's college coach, current Duke head coach Jon Scheyer.
Siegel also reported that the Mavericks may be interested in Spurs assistant coach Sean Sweeney as well. Although it'd be difficult for Scheyer to leave his alma mater given his success there and his talented incoming class of recruits, an NBA coaching job with Cooper Flagg may be too good to turn down. Either way, the Mavericks' coaching decision likely depends most on the thoughts of new president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri.
