Zak Brown Is Playing With Fire by Laughing Off Red Bull’s Pursuit of Oscar Piastri
McLaren CEO Zak Brown is projecting an air of total invincibility right now. Huge paddock rumors are currently linking Oscar Piastri to a shock transfer to Red Bull Racing . But the American executive refuses to sweat the threat.
GPBlog reports that Brown recently tackled the Piastri speculation. He spoke during an interview with The Athletic . Instead of getting defensive, he spun Red Bull’s interest as a massive compliment to the culture at Woking.
“That’s what I want to do: try to create that environment,” Brown told The Athletic . He explicitly stated he embraces a scenario where rival outfits covet his staff. “I think there’s a lot of talent inside McLaren that other racing teams would like to have,” he added.
Red Bull is Not Bluffing Brown might view Red Bull’s interest as flattering. However, treating this situation as a corporate compliment is dangerously arrogant. Red Bull is not just window shopping.
They are actively hunting for a contingency plan. Max Verstappen currently holds Red Bull hostage. His contract reportedly contains a brutal performance clause.
