LSU baseball will be back in the College World Series next year

Yahoo Sports

LSU baseball fell flat in 2026, missing the NCAA Tournament. But it won't take long for Jay Johnson to reload and rebuild.

LSU baseball won't be playing June baseball this year. After a second-round exit in the SEC Tournament, falling to 30-28 overall, LSU is going home. LSU's only path to the postseason was winning the conference -- far-fetched, I know.

It's a shocking way for LSU to end the year. It's not a shock to those who watched this team over the last two months, yet it's still startling to know LSU will not be part of the NCAA Tournament field. Until now, LSU's last time missing an NCAA Tournament was 2011.

It's been 15 years. LSU began 2026 as the defending national champion -- the Tigers ' second College World Series title in three years -- this wasn't how the season was supposed to go. What could go wrong, did go wrong for Jay Johnson's squad.

This one hurts. And it will haunt LSU fans, players, and coaches alike. But I don't expect LSU to stay down for long.
