Report: Jameer Nelson considered internal option for front office job
Jameer Nelson is reportedly considered an internal option for the team's head of the basketball operations department.
The Philadelphia 76ers will be looking in all areas to figure out the replacement for Daryl Morey, who was the team's President of Basketball Operations for six years before the sides decided to part ways. In the interim, Bob Myers is running things and leading the search for a new head voice in the front office. Myers and the Sixers will look internally and externally as they look for the right candidate.
There have been names that have popped up and emerged as candidates from the outside, but an internal one has begun to emerge in the form of Chester, PA native Jameer Nelson. Per Tony Jones of The Athletic: Multiple league sources tell The Athletic that Nelson, among others, is a candidate to become the 76ers’ next president of basketball operations. He is Philadelphia’s strongest internal candidate, as he served this season as assistant general manager.
Even if Nelson doesn’t come away with the obvious vacated spot last week when the 76ers moved on from Daryl Morey, he is a favorite to receive a promotion, league sources say. Nelson was promoted to Philadelphia's assistant GM in the 2025-26 season after being the GM of the team's G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. He played 14 years in the league and was named an All-Star one time with the Orlando Magic in 2009.
He has a ton of basketball experience both on the court and in a front office and would be an excellent choice should the Sixers go this route. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Report: Jameer Nelson considered internal option for front office job
