Rutgers Baseball ends season in Big Ten Tournament with loss to Ohio State

The Scarlet Knights lost a hard-fought game in late innings on Wednesday.

The Scarlet Knights entered a must-win game on Wednesday to keep its season alive in the Big Ten Tournament. Rutgers got a strong start on the mound โ€” and rallied to take a lead late โ€” but could not pull it out in the end. Rutgers fell to Ohio State, 3-2, at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

The Scarlet Knights end the season with a record of 26-30. The Scarlet Knights handed the ball to Zack Konstantinovsky and he delivered 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Ohio State took an early lead on a Henry Kaczmar home run.

Konstantinovsky settled in from there and allowed Rutgers to take the lead. Chase Krewson scored on a fielderโ€™s choice in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at, 1-1. Rutgers took the lead later in that inning as Matt Chatelle scored on an error by the Buckeyes.

Ohio State did not waste time getting the game even as Noah Furcht delivered and RBI single to tie the game once again. Joe Mazza came out of the bullpen and received the loss for Rutgers despite 2 2/3 strong innings. He allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts.
