Hampshire advances to Region Final, run rules Lewis County 10-0
ROMNEY, W. Va. — Hampshire advanced to the Class AAA, Region II final with a 10-0, six-inning win over Lewis County in Thursday's elimination game.
The Trojans (16-11) kept their season alive behind two big offensive spurts. "Anybody that throws a pretty decent curveball, it takes us some adjustment," Hampshire manager Ken Maiers said. "We're a fastball hitting team, and (Lewis County's starter Levi Boram) did a really good job keeping us off balance with the curveball.
I think he got tired, but once he was out of the game, that helped us a lot too. " Hampshire led 1-0 after one inning, then scored five runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to end the game. The Trojans left three runners across the first three frames and had second and third with no outs in the first.
"They hit the ball, we didn't," Lewis County assistant coach Connor Johnson said. "Couple mistakes, big innings and props to them, that's a really good team. " Lewis County head coach Tyler Wood did not attend, following an ejection in the previous game.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hampshire loaded the bases on a pair of walks from Landon Whitacre and Zeke McDonald and an error. Whitacre led Hampshire, going 3 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base. Brent Evans hit a grounder to left for a two-run single.
