T’Vondre Sweat won’t post big numbers for the Jets, but he will do a lot of important work

| Denny Simmons / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Through the spring and summer, we will be counting down the Jets roster player by player. We begin the series by discussing T’Vondre Sweat. Name: T’Vondre Sweat Number: 99 Year With Jets: 1st Projected Role: Starting nose tackle His 2025: Sweat was a regular in the middle of the Titans defense, playing over half the snaps.
His numbers weren’t eye popping, but the job of a player in a nose tackle rose isn’t to produce gaudy stats. It is to eat up blockers and hold the point of attack on most plays. Guys like Sweat do the dirty work in the trenches to make the rest of the defense look good.
By most accounts, Sweat did that effectively. In the offseason he was traded to the Jets for Jermaine Johnson. Robert Saleh’s defensive scheme doesn’t really fit players like Sweat so the Jets were able to scoop up an inexpensive useful player while shedded an expensive player with massive question marks.
His 2026 will be a success if: Sweat eats up blocks effectively and makes life consistently easier on his fellow linemen, Demario Davis, and Jamien Sherwood. You’ll probably never see Sweat post monster stats. His impact is more hidden and subtle.
