How a rain delay allowed Southern Miss baseball to get a day of rest in Sun Belt

The third inning weather delay resulted in Southern Miss baseball turning to the bullpen to help the team secure a Sun Belt Tournament win over Georgia State.

MONTGOMERY, AL − Despite the weather's best efforts, Southern Miss baseball added a tally to its win streak on May 20, taking down Georgia State 7-6 at DABOS Park and advancing to the third round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The top-seeded Golden Eagles (41-12) had to outlast both No. 9 seed Georgia State (26-29) and the rain in a game that lasted 5 1/2 hours, including a 2-hour, 20-minute weather delay.

Southern Miss has won 10 straight games. "I'm proud of the guys," Southern Miss coach Christian Ostrander said. "They weathered the storm, no pun intended.

It was a tough night, we've been out here a long time. That's part of it, that's part of tournament baseball and you've got to deal with the cards that you're dealt. I'm very proud of these guys for staying together and finding a way to win a ballgame.
