•Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M will face Auburn on Friday in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals after dropping two of three games to the Tigers earlier this month.

No. 9 Texas A&M (39-13, 18-11) ended the regular season on a high note after winning the final two games of last weekend's home series vs. Mississippi State, and head into the SEC Tournament as the No.

3 seed, providing the Aggies a four full days to rest and recharge before playing in the quarterfinals on Friday night. Guaranteed to make the NCAA Tournament after missing the postseason last year, second-year coach Michael Earley is confident that his veteran roster is ready to get back to work and continue improving, especially on the mound after allowing a combined 33 runs against the Bulldogs, while star LHP Aiden Sims did not take the mound last weekend due to issues with tightness. On Wednesday, Earley stated that Sims likely won't play in the SEC Tournament, but will be active in the bullpen if needed, which is good news heading into the NCAA Tournament.

On Wednesday night, Texas A&M 's Friday night opponent was revealed: the Aggies will face Auburn for the second time this season, after losing two of three games in Blue Bell Park against the Tigers earlier this month. Instead of facing an LSU team that won't make the postseason, the Aggies will look to defeat an Auburn team that is talented enough to win the SEC Tournament and isn't looking to slow down. Earley did not name his starting pitcher for Friday's matchup, but he has plenty of options while Sims continues to heal.

Texas A&M will face Auburn at 7:00 p. m. on Friday, May 23.
