Why F1 Is Taking Latest Christian Horner Rumors Seriously
Former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner is seemingly lining up a move to return to the F1 grid with a new team entering the series. Horner was let go of his duties at Red Bull after numerous scandals, involving matters both on and off the track. He left with a red mark, essentially being forced out after the leadership above him lost confidence in his ability to lead the racing team.
The news came suddenly and out of nowhere, considering he was acting totally normal; however, behind the scenes, plans were in the works, and he eventually left with a massive severance package. A new path for Horner According to new reports, Chinese car manufacturer BYD, which specializes in electric and hybrid vehicles, is considering an entry into F1. Horner ended up meeting Stella Li, BYD’s executive vice president, and the pair have held serious talks about a possible F1 project that could materialize quite quickly. There was no official confirmation of a push into the F1, but by all accounts, the conversation will be revisited over the coming months.
Li has made it no secret that she and BYD want to enter the sport. “I like Formula 1 because it’s about passion, culture, and people dream of being in Formula 1…it’s something we’re discussing. It’s a real opportunity to test our technology,” she told SportMediaset.
The successful Chinese car manufacturer does have the resources to enter an expensive sport like F1. It would give Horner the platform to build something from the ground up and have the support to control the entire operation. Additionally, if he signs on, the team would likely give him a good deal of ownership, helping him avoid what happened with Red Bull after not having the control to stay on baord nd make decisions.
