McClaren became England manager in 2006 but failed to secure qualification for Euro 2008. He later had success with FC Twente in the Netherlands before less successful spells at clubs like Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Queen’s Park Rangers. McClaren rejoined Manchester United as an assistant coach as part of Erik ten Hag’s team in 2022 and won the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
The 65-year-old would take one more foray into international management as Jamaica manager before leaving the role in November last year. ” The site also proudly explained, “it has been universally agreed by our Chairman Tony Stewart and the club’s Directors that the former England manager’s vast experience across numerous levels and disciplines within the game would bring enormous value and prestige to our football operation and McClaren begins his job with the Millers with immediate effect. ” Part of his remit will be to establish a “sustainable structure” amongst numerous departments, and he will lead the process of searching for a new first team coach after they were relegated to League Two this season.
