Clark was a last-minute addition to the injury report.

According to coach Stephanie White, the superstar guard woke up with a stiff and sore back, resulting in her first absence of the year. It was a tough blow for Indiana, given her injury history from last season. Moreover, Clark was leading the team in points and assists and was third in rebounds per game across four games.

However, the Fever still emerged triumphant behind an excellent effort from Aliyah Boston and the rest of the group by securing a 90-73 win. Boston led the charge with her best game, scoring 24 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Boston shot 8 of 11 from the field, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range.

Meanwhile, Kelsey Mitchell added 21 points and four assists on 6 of 11 shots. Lexie Hull had her best game yet with 16 points and eight rebounds on 4 of 4 shooting. After these performances, especially Boston’s, the fan commentary surrounding the Fever playing better without Clark returned.

Last season, when Clark was limited to 13 games and didn’t play in the postseason, the Fever made the conference finals and took the eventual champion Aces to five games. Many of Caitlin Clark’s critics jumped on the bandwagon, suggesting the Fever fared better with her off the floor. After Wednesday’s result and multiple players, those polarizing conversations returned on X.
