HARDEEVILLE, S. C. (WSAV) — The Hardeeville boys soccer team is in the same position as last year, as they prepare to play for the SCHSL Class A state title against Dixie on Thursday.

The Hurricanes aspire for a different result this year. Last May, they fell, 2-1, to Dixie in the season’s final game. Hardeeville is in its second year of playing varsity soccer and while a lot remains the same from the 2025 season they are some differences.

One major difference is a new head coach Misael Garzon, who replaced David Wright. The Hurricanes also lost their top four players from a year ago. This year.

Hardeeville went 18-7 overall with a 9-1 region record and they have won eight straight. If they can win one more match, they will win the school’s first state championship in the sport since returning to varsity competition in 2025. “Things are different than your normal training week in a season,” Garzon said.

“Leaning on that experience with players who witness that last year has been crucial for our new players. The same for me as a coach, having been there before in the state championship, when we went into 2019 and my previous school kind of leaning on that, but also trusting them that they are prepared for the moment. ” Senior Efrain Tinoco Ceron added, “It means a lot because I played my freshman year and my junior year and we could barely get past the second round.
