LSU football hires Ed Orgeron as championship coach returns
Ed Orgeron is making his return to LSU. The national championship winning head coach will join Lane Kiffin's staff.
Ed Orgeron is returning to LSU football. Per a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel, LSU and Orgeron finalized a deal for Orgeron to have a place on Lane Kiffin's LSU staff. Orgeron was LSU's head coach from 2016-2021, and led the Tigers to a 15-0 season and national championship in 2019.
The Louisiana native is familiar with Kiffin, and when Kiffin was originally hired in Baton Rouge, there was speculation about Orgeron returning. Now, it's official. Orgeron and Kiffin have worked together at multiple stops, including Tennessee and USC.
When USC fired Kiffin in 2013, it was Orgeron who stepped in as the Trojans' interim head coach. Orgeron has expressed a desire to get back in the game over the last year. He has not held an official coaching position since he separated from LSU in 2021.
