Illinois falls to Purdue, ending Big Ten Tournament run

Illinois Baseball’s season came to a disappointing end in the Big Ten Tournament when the Illini lost 3-1 to the Purdue Boilermakers on Wednesday in Omaha.

The game featured an absolute pitching duel with both starters determined to keep their teams’ seasons alive in the elimination game. Illinois’ Aidan Flinn was dominant for most of his seven innings of work, striking out seven and only allowing two hits. However, his defining moment came in the bottom of the eighth inning, in which he hit two batters and walked another to load the bases with only one out. Following the walk, Reed Gannon stepped onto the mound but was unable to get the Illini out of the jam, resulting in three Boilermaker runs.
