Chicago Bears Looking to Add Cornerback Depth with Series of Recent Workouts
With past injuries and roster shifts impacting the secondary, the Chicago Bears are doing their homework on some veteran cornerbacks to provide depth for their defense.
The Chicago Bears are looking to add depth at the cornerback position. That appears clear as day after multiple reports stating that the Bears are bringing in defensive backs to work out at Halas Hall. On Tuesday, Jordan Schultz reported thatย Chiefs cornerback Nazeeh Johnson is visiting the Bears.
A day later, Aaron Wilson reported that veteran corner Sam Webb worked out for the Bears on Wednesday. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Johnson in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Since being drafted from Marshall University, Johnson hasn't had much playing experience on defense, outside the 2024 season.
That year, the 6-foot-2, 199-pound cornerback played 548 total defensive snaps and registered 43 total tackles while giving up 32 receptions on 51 targets for 487 yards and two touchdowns. He also logged two pass breakups. Since 2022, Johnson also has 780 snaps played on special teams .
Webb, 28, is entering his fifth season in the NFL after going undrafted out of Missouri Western State. The 6-foot, 195-pound cornerback has played 487 total defensive snaps in his career, with 327 of those snaps coming in his rookie season. Webb has played primarily at the boundary corner position (375 snaps), but he has been featured for in the slot (58 snaps) and another 48 in the box, according to Pro Football Focus.
