Martha’s Vineyard girls tennis caps undefeated 16-0 regular season

Recapping Wednesday's Cape Cod and Islands high school sports action.

The Barnstable boys volleyball were one of the hottest teams in the state as they started the season 15-1. The Red Hawks (16-4) then lost the next three matches, but won the last match of the regular season with a 3-0 win over Taunton to build some momentum for the state tournament, where they are currently ranked 11th in Division 1. Brady Kundel led with 10 kills, Wesley Sullivan had six kills, Joao Pedro Andrade and Rafael Ferias had five kills each, Leayon Brooks had four kills and Matheus Alvarenga added three kills.

Alvarenga distributed the ball well with 26 assists. Enzo Santos and Kundel had seven digs each, while Ferias had five digs. Andrade had two blocks for a team-high.

Alvarenga, Andrade and Kundel had two aces apiece. In other high school action: Baseball  West Bridgewater 15, Bourne 10 : The Canalmen (4-14) finished a game that was postponed due to rain after six innings that was tied 10-10. The Canalmen gave up five runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Ronan Kelly and Tucker Muldoon had two hit each, while six other batters recorded one hit. Cape Tech 5, Sturgis 4 : The Crusaders (8-8) were down 4-1 in the seventh inning and came back to beat Sturgis (4-8). Tucker Enos pitch five innings, stuck out six, gave up two unearned runs, three walks, and also had two hits and one RBI at the plate.
