Two-time state title winning coach Mike Burgoyne has ended a 14-year run at Franklin soccer as the Admirals fell in the TSSAA state tournament on May 20.

Mike Burgoyne's storied tenure with Franklin soccer has come to an end after the long time Admirals mentor resigned. Burgoyne spent 14 years with the Admirals, first being hired as boys soccer coach in 2012 before stepping up to additionally lead the girls program in 2015. He resigned as Franklin girls soccer coach following the 2025 season, but remained with the boys through the 2026 campaign to see off his 12-man senior class.

Franklin's season came to a close as the Admirals lost to Bearden, 4-2, in the TSSAA Class AAA state semifinal at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro on May 20. Burgoyne had informed Franklin administration of his decision to step down ahead of the season, seeking more time with his wife and three kids. "The wins have been great," Burgoyne said.

"Competing in this district and this state have been great, but really, seeing kids grow, that's the part that when I reflect I'm going to miss most.
