SOMERSET, Pa. – Eventually, the District 5 Class 1A baseball quarterfinal between fourth-seeded Berlin Brothersvalley and No. 5 Shanksville-Shade will get played.

Just not Tuesday, when rain wiped out the contest at its originally scheduled site at Berlin Brothersvalley High School. Shanksville-Shade vs. Berlin Brothersvalley baseball postponed Wednesday’s attempt met the same fate as the teams sat through a delay just over a half-hour at Somerset Area High School before getting sent home thanks to heavy rain and visible lightning in the area.

Neither attempt saw a live pitch thrown. The Vikings and Mountaineers are planning to give it another try at 1:30 p. m.

Thursday, keeping Somerset and its turf infield as the rendezvous point. It’ll be the third try for the third meeting between the Vikings (7-10) and Mountaineers (11-9). Berlin Brothersvalley scored wins over the Vikings April 8 (15-11) and April 24 (13-6, nine innings).

Berlin Brothersvalley will be going on nine days since its previous game – a 7-6 loss at home May 12 against Windber that followed an 11-3 win over Turkeyfoot Valley on the same day. Shanksville-Shade’s most recent action came May 14 when it blanked host North Star 8-0. “We definitely mentally try to stay prepared,” Shanksville-Shade coach Luke Mihelcic said, “try to stay focused.
