Panthers part ways with RB on Wednesday
The Panthers waived a RB on Wednesday with an injury settlement.
The Carolina Panthers parted ways with a running back on Wednesday. As noted by Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer , running back Montrell Johnson Jr. has been waived with an injury settlement.
Johnson, who was waived-injured on Monday, reverted back to the Panthers' injured reserve on Tuesday after going unclaimed. A New Orleans, La. native, Johnson split his collegiate career between the University of Louisiana (2021) and the University of Florida (2022 to 2024).
He was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-Sun Belt member in 2021, where he rushed for 838 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Ragin' Cajuns. Johnson would break into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in the spring of 2025. He would be released from their practice squad on Sept.
9, then joined the Arizona Cardinals ' practice squad in late November. Following another release, Johnson signed to Carolina's practice squad on Dec. 17.
