Los Angeles Dodgers bsecond aseman Tommy Edman could make his return from offseason ankle surgery sooner rather than later.

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Tommy Edman has spent the whole season so far on the sidelines as he recovers from offseason ankle surgery , but Katie Woo of the Athletic reported he could make a return sometime soon. Edman struggled with his right ankle throughout the 2025 campaign, landing on the injured list twice due to the issue and moving strictly to second base due to the fragility of his ankle. With several months of recovery under his belt, though, Woo says he could begin taking some major steps towards returning.

“Tommy Edman was with the team in San Diego and is trending toward a rehab assignment, though he still has a few more boxes to check with his running progression,” Woo wrote . “It’s been a lengthy recovery process for Edman, who isn’t expected back with the Dodgers until June at the earliest. There is a growing sense he could start playing in rehab games in a few weeks.

” The Dodgers themselves seem confident in Edman’s recovery as well, and surely won’t be in a rush to bring him back given how the team has fared while he’s been out. While Edman would be a definite upgrade to the team, they’ve still managed to sit in first in the NL West for a majority of the season, and currently hold a 0. 5-game lead over the San Diego Padres.

“Each week we’re trending up and able to do more and get closer to his game speeds to take on more volume,” Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said . “Knock on wood, we’re in a good place right now. ” Apr 1, 2026; Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers Tommy Edman (25) takes live batting practice prior to the game Cleveland Guardians at Dodger Stadium.
