Detroit โ Tigers manager AJ Hinch on Wednesday bluntly debunked a media report that suggested lefty Tarik Skubal could be pitching in competition in two weeks without the need of a minor-league rehab assignment. Will Carroll, who covered sports injuries for Baseball Prospectus for eight years, wrote in his Substack column, that there are people in Skubalโs camp who believe, based on how well his two off-the-mound throwing sessions have gone, that he could return to competition without a prolonged arm build-up process. More: Tigers' Justin Verlander hits 96 mph in 4-inning sim game โThatโs untrue,โ Hinch said, curtly.
Then, for emphasis, he added, โThatโs ridiculous. โ Hinch reiterated what heโs said all along, that Skubal certainly will need to do a minor-league rehab assignment. Skubal on Sunday threw a full bullpen for the first time since having a NanoScope arthroscopic procedure on his left elbow May 3 .
That started his normal, five-day throwing routine. Chris. McCosky@detroitnews.
