Detroit โ€” Tigers manager AJ Hinch on Wednesday bluntly debunked a media report that suggested lefty Tarik Skubal could be pitching in competition in two weeks without the need of a minor-league rehab assignment. Will Carroll, who covered sports injuries for Baseball Prospectus for eight years, wrote in his Substack column, that there are people in Skubalโ€™s camp who believe, based on how well his two off-the-mound throwing sessions have gone, that he could return to competition without a prolonged arm build-up process. More: Tigers' Justin Verlander hits 96 mph in 4-inning sim game โ€œThatโ€™s untrue,โ€ Hinch said, curtly.

Then, for emphasis, he added, โ€œThatโ€™s ridiculous. โ€ Hinch reiterated what heโ€™s said all along, that Skubal certainly will need to do a minor-league rehab assignment. Skubal on Sunday threw a full bullpen for the first time since having a NanoScope arthroscopic procedure on his left elbow May 3 .

That started his normal, five-day throwing routine. Chris. McCosky@detroitnews.
