Browns quarterback competition may come down to one shocking factor

The quarterback situation will remain a focal point as the Browns have some reasonable options. NFL insider Albert Breer provided his take on the ongoing topic. In his recent mailbag, Breer said that it would be worth the Browns giving Deshaun Watson another chance this season; at the same time, they should also evaluate the other options like Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sander and Taylen Green.
"That said, what would make that swing and a miss worse? Giving Watson no chance under the new coaching staff, only to see him revive his career with a new team in 2027. At this point, the investment they have in the other quarterbacks on the roster is third-, fifth- and sixth-round picks (Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sander and Taylen Green, respectively) and those guys cost the team relative pennies on rookie deals.
"It’s not like they have to give any of those guys the season to see what they have. If Sanders beats out Watson and is the best quarterback for the Browns in 2026, then you go with him. But if Watson is the best guy in the spring and summer, and shows even a sliver of the high-end quarterback play he put on display in Houston on the practice field, then I think the Browns owe it to themselves to give him some run in the fall and see where it goes.
" Head coach Todd Monken recently revealed that "nothing has changed" in the quarterback competition, and they are still dividing the reps. Browns balancing Deshaun Watson investment and future QB options The quarterback situation for Cleveland is one of the most fascinating and complicated. The Browns are trying to balance a ton, including a sunk cost, future development and immediate competitiveness all at once.
