(Photo by Image Photo Agency/Getty Images) | Getty Images Please accept our apologies, but due to a brief internet outage at CdT HQ, we’ve been a bit behind on the news and rumors this week. Aside from the oh-so-predictable pendulum swings in the Paulo Dybala renewal story, the latest “twist” would see La Joya venture off to the English Premier League, the rumor mill has started to focus on possible complements to Donyell Malen in attack.
As remarkable as Malen’s performance has been, it has obscured a rather important fact: Roma has no other option up top. With Evan Ferguson’s ill-fated tenure in the capital set to expire in another month and Artem Dobvyk’s future with the Giallorossi clouded, Roma is in the market for another center-forward to lighten the load on Malen. According to Orazio Accomando, an Italian journalist affiliated with SportMedia set and DAZN, Roma is keeping an eye on Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
No stranger to Roma fans, the Serbian striker has bagged 92 goals and 17 assists over parts of eight seasons with Fiorentina and Juventus. However, with his contract expiring at the end of June and no renewal in sight, Roma has reportedly joined the queue for the 26-year-old, alongside clubs like Barcelona and Arsenal. In a lovely bit of irony, Juventus’ potential failure to qualify for the Champions League could push Vlahovic to the Giallorossi.
This is still a rather flimsy rumor, but it does underscore the need for an additional striker to pair with Malen. As always, stay tuned!
