What was supposed to be another postseason appearance this year has turned into one of the worst records in baseball. They're 21-28 on the season, tied for the fewest wins in the AL East, and already 11. 5 games back in the division.
If things don't improve soon, a sell-off by the trade deadline might be what Craig Breslow and company have to do. But if they do trade away some players, there will be a few that are untouchable. And according to Bleacher Report's Joel Rueter, the team's most untouchable is a fan favorite lefty pitcher in Peyton Tolle.
"Tolle took his lumps as a late-season call-up last year, but he is showing this season why he was the consensus top arm in the Boston system," Rueter writes. "It's hard to imagine the Red Sox parting with a guy who has a chance to be their best homegrown starter since Jon Lester. " Red Sox fans will agree that Tolle, the beloved lefty starter, is someone the Red Sox should have no intention to trade this season.
