Steelers insider shares 'confident' take on Nick Herbig trade rumors

Yahoo Sports

Trade rumors are flying, but Bob Labriola believes there’s no chance the Pittsburgh Steelers deal Nick Herbig in 2026.

The NFL trade rumor mill has seen plenty of talented Pittsburgh Steelers mentioned this offseason, but one key insider believes there's zero chance one standout defender is dealt. According to a "confident" take from Bob Labriola of Steelers . com, Nick Herbig will not be traded heading into the 2026 season, despite multiple rumors indicating the contrary.

"I am confident Nick Herbig will not be traded going into what will be his fourth NFL season. There is a lot of speculation out there in the ether that I choose not to dignify by mentioning it here," Labriola wrote via Asked and Answered. Herbig, one of the most underrated edge rushers in the NFL, is due for a contract extension this upcoming season.

But the Steelers are already on the books with T. J. Watt and Alex Highsmith, which has led to some of the trade speculation over the past few months.

Despite limited snap opportunities behind Highsmith and Watt, Herbig has recorded 13 sacks and seven forced fumbles over the past two seasons. While it’s hard to imagine the Steelers having three starting-caliber edge rushers signed to big contract extensions, unless Pittsburgh receives an offer impossible to refuse, Herbig appears to be gearing up to play out his rookie deal in 2026.
