CHICAGO − The Cincinnati Reds’ Chase Burns was hit with a line drive on the backside of his upper thigh during his May 19 start against the Philadelphia Phillies. Despite Francona’s initial surprise, it appears the injury was minor, and Burns is expected to be fine moving forward. By Wednesday, Burns had recovered sufficiently that he could laugh off the incident.
After retiring Bryce Harper with a line drive on his final pitch of the night, Burns improved to 6-1 on the year and 3-0 in May for the Reds, who won 4-1 against the Phillies. The Reds have three out of their five May victories, including a 20-11 overall record this month.
