Contracts tell us the plan going forward in a clear way. Money talks. If a running back is getting a substantial contract compared to the rest of the league, the chance of RB1-level volume is a near guarantee.
So far this offseason, five big running back contracts have been signed, passing a 4% cap threshold. By looking at the past running backs to reach 4% of their team’s salary cap, we can see the likelihood of top-level volume. Sure, it’s obvious Christian McCaffrey would see 20+ touches, but shakier names in the past have become steadier picks because of big paydays.
