Oxbridge Academy softball crushes reigning champs to reach state final

Oxbridge Academy softball defeated Calvary Christian in a state semifinal, advancing to the state championship game.

Oxbridge Academy softball got the party started early in Wednesday's Class 2A state semifinal and rode the momentum to a 5-1 victory over defending champions Calvary Christian. The Thunderwolves (23-3) put up four runs in the first three innings to stun sophomore hurler Morgan Spinner and the Warriors (22-5). Oxbridge enjoyed a sharp performance on the mound from Aubrey Vital to advance to the state championship game for the first time since 2017.

The Class 2A state title game will take place at 5 p. m. at Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood, Florida on Thursday, May 21.

The Thunderwolves will face the winner of No. 2 North Bay Haven Academy and No. 3 Cornerstone Charter Academy.

After both hitters walked, Goode stole her 28th base of the season, taking third on a low pitch and then scoring on a throwing error to net the Thunderwolves an early 1-0 lead. Ashly Navarez logged an RBI in the second, and then it was back to the Thunderwolves working the basepaths with their speedy lineup.
