Hearts say final day pitch invasion sets a 'troubling precedent' Hearts have released a further statement following the 3-1 defeat away to Celtic that saw the Bhoys crowned Premiership champions once again. The game had a lengthy period of stoppage time added on with Hearts hoping for an equaliser that would win them the title. However, Callum Osmand broke away and was able to dribble the ball into an empty net to effectively kill off the game with home fans invading the pitch.
Referee Don Robertson appeared to end the game early with at least another minute remaining to be played with it clear that it would not be possible to restart the game. Hearts have now provided an update saying that they would offer 'full support' to police enquiries over the incident. The club has also written to the SFA and SPFL about what happened following Osmand's goal in which they express concern "that a troubling precedent has been set whereby a pitch invasion can effectively determine the duration of a football match, rather than the match officials.
We have asked them for a prompt response to the points we have raised. " The statement also referenced comments in the aftermath of the game: "We are aware of highly irresponsible comments made publicly this week, which appear to seek to defend those who entered the pitch on Saturday and undermine the gravity of the situation. Those remarks carry dangerous implications, and we call upon the football authorities to ensure that this matter is addressed with the seriousness it demands, and with the full cooperation of all involved.
