The Washington Huskies softball program announced plans for a major facilities upgrade following a substantial gift.

Husky Softball Stadium is getting a major upgrade. On Tuesday morning, the University of Washington announced that, thanks to a $22 million gift from Tom McFarlan, coach Heather Tarrโ€™s programโ€™s facilities will be among the best in the nation in the not-too-distant future. For a program that has made 32 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament, it seems like a long-overdue upgrade.

"We are incredibly grateful for Tom's leadership gift and the momentum it creates for Washington softball," UW athletic director Pat Chun said in a statement. "This is an important step in bolstering one of the premier college softball programs in the country, and it will meaningfully enhance the experience for our student-athletes and fans. We are fortunate to be part of a community that cares deeply about UW Softball, and with Coach Tarr's extraordinary leadership, we are excited about the future of this program.

First, the university will focus on renovating the team spaces, locker rooms, and dugouts, while fan amenities and the press box will also receive a facelift, and the stadium will also be able to hold expanded broadcast capabilities. Then, phase two will focus on expanding seating and adding a canopy behind home plate for some of Seattle's rainy days. "From our rich legacy to the next chapter - the major renovation at Husky Softball Stadium is a game-changer for our program," Tarr added in the same release.
