Heritage High School (Maryville, Tennessee) defeated Liberty Creek High School (Gallatin, Tennessee), 9-1, Tuesday in the TSSAA Class AAA state tournament at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. 2027 Tennessee baseball commitment Gaven French pitched five innings for Heritage. He allowed one run and two hits.
French recorded 10 strikeouts, while totaling 75 pitches, including 51 strikes for the Mountaineers, making their first-ever state tournament. He also went 1-for-3 and recorded one RBI and one run. A two-way player for the Mountaineers, French also plays second base and shortstop.
He committed to the Vols and head coach Josh Elander on Nov. 5, 2025. The junior also received scholarship offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Clemson .
Heritage will next play on Wednesday versus Crockett County High School (Alamo, Tennessee) in a winners' bracket game. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p. m.
