He must be good at something other than hitting, because the Giants are hardly playing their top-tier slugging prospect. It's one of the weirdest storylines of this MLB season, and while outside of the Bay Area it might not be resonating, it's pretty much unthinkable. It's possible that none of the other 29 organizations would be handling it like this.

Eldridge is one of the best hitting prospects in baseball, but he's currently riding the bench like an afterthought. The clear two options in a situation like this are to let him stay at Triple-A and develop further, or to bring him up to play pretty much every day. The Giants have managed to choose door number three.
