Red Wings build lead then hang on late in victory over Worcester
The Rochester Red Wings defeated the Worcester Red Sox 7-6, holding off a late rally after a middle-inning surge.
The Rochester Red Wings used a middle-inning surge to hold off the Worcester Red Sox 7-6 Tuesday night at Polar Park. Worcester struck first in the opening inning when Nate Eaton doubled to center and scored on an RBI single to left by Anthony Seigler for a 1-0 lead. Red Wings starter Andry Lara then stranded a runner and retired the side in order in the second to keep the deficit at one.
Trey Lipscomb pulled Rochester even in the third, lining a solo home run to left-center off Raymond Burgos. The teams traded runs again in the third and fourth innings. Worcester briefly went back in front 2-1 in the third when Tsung-Che Cheng doubled and scored on a Mikey Romero line-drive double to left.
Rochester answered in the fourth as Morales singled to center, moved up on an Andrew Pinckney single and scored on Seaver King's single to center to tie it, 2-2. The hit was Kingโs first as a Red Wing after he was called up from Double-A Harrisburg on Monday. Later in the inning, Lipscomb forced in another run with a bases-loaded walk, bringing in Pinckney for a 3-2 Red Wings lead.
The Red Sox pulled even again in the bottom of the fourth when Allan Castro walked, stole second, moved up on an infield play and scored on Cheng's RBI force at second. Rochester took control with a three-run fifth. Christian Franklin drew a leadoff walk and scored when Yohandy Morales drilled an RBI double to center, knocking Burgos out of the game and putting the Red Wings ahead 4-3.
