MUMBAI: Out-of-form wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was on Tuesday stripped of the Test vice-captaincy for India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan, with opener KL Rahul elevated to the role in his place. Pant was also dropped from India’s ODI squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan in June. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel.

As expected, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from both the Test and ODI assignments as part of workload management by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, which picked the squads in Guwahati on Tuesday. Senior allrounder Ravindra Jadeja too has been rested from both squads after picking up a knee niggle towards the back-end of IPL-2026.
Jadeja had missed Rajasthan Royals’ defeat to Delhi Capitals on Sunday night, but chief selector Ajit Agarkar clarified that the veteran had been “rested” and not dropped. “I think Jadeja has just been rested for this Test. He remains a very integral part of the Test team,” Agarkar said.
