“How In The World Is That An Error On Bo Bichette?” – Fans Defend $126 Million Mets Star After Catcher Mistake Costs Win Vs Nationals
Bo Bichette - New York Mets | © Imagn Fans defended New York Mets star infielder Bo Bichette after an error credited to him in Game 2 against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. The mistake, which occurred in the fourth inning with CJ Abrams at bat and runners on second and third, contributed to the home team extending their lead to an unassailable 9-5. As the ball bounced in the infield, Bichette quickly fielded it and threw to catcher Luis Torrens at home plate.
However, Torrens failed to catch the ball, which went past him after hitting his glove, allowing two runs to score. Despite the throw being accurate in real time, the error was charged to Bichette because Torrens did not catch it. The Nationals scored nine consecutive runs after the Mets took a 0-5 lead in the first two innings.
Fans were clearly upset that Bichette was charged with an error, even though his throw was perfectly accurate at the plate; Torrens simply misjudged it. “How in the world is that an error on bichette lol,” one fan commented . “I’m sorry but why is that not an E2,” another fan commented .
“The official scorer must have some family relation to the catcher or something. Because damn, that sure looks like E2 to me,” yet another fan commented . Other fans continued to weigh in on whether Bichette should have been charged with a throwing error or whether it should have been an error on the catcher for failing to catch a simple throw at the plate.
“That’s on the catcher, not to mention Torrens already gave up a run on a passed ball that should’ve been caught. FFS,” one fan commented . “How the hell is that an error on bichette???
