It's now the middle of May, and there are still a lot of questions about what the Chicago Bears are going to do to improve their edge-rushing room.
The Bears, at least on paper, look like one of the best teams in the NFL right now. As long as they stay healthy and play the type of football that everybody expects out of them, there's a lot of reason to think the Bears can not only be a team to watch out for in the NFC, but a team that potentially has a chance to win a Super Bowl. The edge-rushing situation is definitely something that has to be improved upon; however, ESPN recently proposed fixing it by signing 37-year-old Von Miller, a two-time Super Bowl champion, eight-time Pro Bowler, and three-time All-Pro.
“The Bears are awaiting the return of edge rushers Dayo Odeying (Achilles) and Shemar Turner (torn ACL), and the team didn’t take an edge rusher in the draft. That could open the door for Miller as a sub-package defender for Chicago. “At this stage of his career, Miller is best used as a true designated pass rusher.
He had a team-high nine sacks for the Commanders last season,” Matt Bowen of ESPN wrote . Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the idea of bringing in veteran guys, but Miller is already 37, and there's definitely reason to think that he just isn't the same player that he once was. He had a decent season a year ago in terms of sack numbers with nine, but it feels like this is the type of move that will backfire on a Bears team that really needs to figure out a way to improve on the defensive side of the football.
