Svilar maintains highest saves percentage in Italy There’s no hiding it now: Mile Svilar is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He’s enjoying yet another season as a key player for Roma, whose saves could help lead them to the Champions League. On Sunday night, Roma will be playing for next season’s Champions League with their fate in their own hands.
He’ll be between the posts, as always this season, with the exception of the night in Athens when Pierluigi Gollini played against Panathinaikos. The final 90 minutes will be a chance to dream, yes, but also to improve his save record. With a 77% save percentage (104 out of 135 shots faced), he’s the best saver in Serie A among the top six clubs.
Svilar’s performances this season have not gone unnoticed. The summer, and therefore the transfer window, is approaching, and the number 99 could raise the eyebrows of some top clubs. Roma will need to generate revenue to meet the FFP restrictions, and who knows, perhaps Mile, should an irresistible offer come through, could become a potential pawn in this game.
Gian Piero Gasperini is unlikely to want to part with him, especially if the Giallorossi qualify for the Champions League seven years after their last appearance. Participating in Europe’s premier competition could also be grounds for the goalkeeper to say no to potential advances from other teams.
