Giants Suffer Heartbreaking Loss

Yahoo Sports

Reliever Matt Gage surrenders game-winning, three-run homer as Arizona Diamondbacks rally past San Francisco Giants 5-3.

Matt Gage couldn't believe what happened in the bottom of the ninth at Chase Field. The San Francisco Giants' reliever came on to potentially secure a win for his ballclub against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. Well, that didn't happen.

Gage threw a 1-0 pitch that the Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte hit over the left-field wall, giving Arizona a come-from-behind 5-3 victory. After cameras caught Marte rounding the bases, they also happened to focus on Gage. He had the look of a man who simply didn't know what took place during Marte's at-bat.

But it was a tough, tough way for the Giants to lose. San Francisco entered the bottom of the ninth with a 3-1 lead. But Caleb Kilian, who took the loss for the Giants, and Gage couldn't get the job done for manager Tony Vitello.

The defeat sends San Francisco nine games below . 500 at 20-29, putting them in fourth place in the National League West Division. They would be in last place but the Colorado Rockies are worse than the Giants.
