The fight was strong for Manchester City but the body was not as City’s title bid ended last night Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth last night at the Vitality Stadium in a Premier League fixture that City had to win. Manchester City’s draw with Bournemouth sees Arsenal crowned Premier League champions for the 2025-26 season. Pep Guardiola’s side fought until the end after Eli Junior Kroupi gave the Cherries the lead in the 39th minute.
City never gave up, and Erling Haaland scored a 95th-minute equalizer to give brief hope of a miracle comeback. But it wasn’t to be. Come the final whistle, Manchester City’s spirit was there, but it looked like last night’s match was a step too far for a tired City side.
Manchester City looked tired throughout last night’s match and Bournemouth were brilliant. Pep Guardiola’s side faced their third match in six days last night at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth were probably the number one team that City didn’t want to face under such circumstances.
Andoni Iraola’s side had been unbeaten in the Premier League since January and needed a point to secure European football for next season. Also, the match against City was Iraola’s last as Bournemouth manager at home, so the Cherries were fired up for last night and played accordingly. In fact, they should have put the game to bed as David Brooks missed two gilt-edged chances to secure all three points for Bournemouth before Erling Haaland canceled out Eli Junior Kroupi’s superb first half goal.
Watching City play, you could see the physical toll of a hectic schedule on full display. Matheus Nunes looked like a heavy workload had caught up to him. Rodri and Bernardo Silva battled in midfield but also looked fatigued.
