Veteran WR identified as 49ers best player who could get cut in 2026

The 49ers added two receivers in free agency and another in the second round of the draft, which could spell the end for one veteran in San Francisco.

The San Francisco 49ers saw the obvious hole on the offensive side of the ball this offseason, so they made sure to add to their wide receiver room over the last few months to give quarterback Brock Purdy the best chance to succeed in 2026. With the additions of Mike Evans, Christian Kirk and De'Zhaun Stribling, the 49ers will likely have to make some tough choices at the positions when they eventually trim their roster from 90 players down to 53. With that in mind, Bleacher Report's Moe Moton recently identified wide receiver Demarcus Robinson as the best veteran on San Francisco's roster who could get cut before Week 1.

"This offseason, the San Francisco 49ers signed six-time Pro Bowler Mike Evans, inside-outside wideout Christian Kirk and selected De'Zhaun Stribling in the second round of the draft," Moton wrote. "Though Kirk isn't a lock to make the roster with his production on the decline, he can replace Jauan Jennings in the slot when Christian McCaffrey or George Kittle aren't lined up there. "As primarily an outside wideout, Demarcus Robinson has little chance to make the roster with Evans and Stribling joining the receiver room.

" Evans and Ricky Pearsall will likely top the 49ers' wide receiver depth chart, with Stribling and Kirk likely following behind them. This means the fifth spot would be between Jordan Watkins, Jacob Cowing, Malik Turner, Junior Bergen, Wesley Grimes, Will Pauling and Colton Dowell. While Robinson is the most experienced of the group, San Francisco may look to go with the upside of Watkins or Cowing who were both fourth-round picks in recent drafts.

Trading Robinson would be much more beneficial for the 49ers, considering they'd save $2. 2 million that way. Another team may be willing to give up a conditional Day-3 pick for a receiver with 272 receptions, 3,289 receiving yards and 28 receiving touchdowns in his career.
