COAL CITY, WV (WVNS) – Independence delivered a stunning walk-off win to knock off Liberty and secure their second ticket to the AA State Tournament in the past decade. In a nail-biting match, Liberty’s Annabell Lemon thrived with two home runs, while Independence’s Ava Parks showcased her prowess by hitting three home runs over her high school career. Entering the 7th inning tied at 4, Independence’s defense held off the Raider bats until Payton Boothe hit a sacrifice bunt that sent Emma Simpson to second base.
The game-winning blast from Payton Boothe in the outfield sealed the win for Independence, who advance to the state tournament in South Charleston next month.
