Josh Weinfuss, the ESPN beat reporter for the Arizona Cardinals, detailed Brissett's contract negotiations. He wrote that Brissett has already been told by new head coach Matt LeFleur that he is the team's starting quarterback in 2026. Having this information, Brissett seems to have taken offense to the fact that his "backup", the newly signed Gardner Minshew, is set to make more than $3.
5 million more in guaranteed money than he. This gripe makes sense at face value. But if you dig any deeper, you'll be forced to face the fact that Brissett has never been better than a below-average quarterback in the NFL.
He went 1-11 as the starter for the Cardinals last season. This made his career record as a starter 20-45. Moreover, he has absolutely no ties to the new head coach.
