Hansi Flick’s side were knocked out in the quarter-finals this season by Atletico Madrid and Garcia says the team must find the right balance in European competition.
“We need to find the balance between not losing their identity and having more control of matches from the back, perhaps dropping back a little more during uncomfortable periods of the game,” he told EFE. Garcia also highlighted how the Champions League “features the best teams from each league,” and stressed the need to be “100% defensively,” otherwise quality opponents will take advantage. The goalkeeper also says Barca will also have to put some hard work in if they are to improve on this season’s showing.
“It would be a mistake to think it’s going to happen on its own, it doesn’t. We have to keep working. If we don’t improve the small details that are keeping us out of the qualifiers, it’s not going to happen.
We also have to trust the process, the maturity we’re gaining,” he added. “We are a very young group. We still need to gain a lot of experience in the Champions League.
