Yahoo Sports

May 19—Wright State has three golfers who have played in three straight NCAA tourneys, and that experience — and lack of intimidation — showed in the first round at the 13-team Ohio State regional on Monday, May 18. The Raiders shot a 12-over 296 in howling wind at the Scarlet course and are tied for seventh with California. The top five teams after 54 holes advance to the 30-team NCAA championships, and they're just three strokes behind fifth-place Illinois State.

Arizona State is sixth on the bunched leaderboard at 10-over. Oregon, South Florida and Utah are tied for 11th at 16-over. "I'm really happy with how the guys fought.

We knew it'd be tough. We had some good (par) saves at the end of the round to leave us in a good spot," fifth-year coach Conner Lash said. Shane Ochs led the way with a 1-over 72, followed by Adam Horn at 73, Timmy Hollenbeck at 75.

The trio are making their third regional appearance. "They can kind of let the guys know, 'We can do this. ' You had to put that good first round together.

We didn't play our best golf. We left some stuff out there. But that first round Is huge to get that belief," Lash said.
