Washington track & field takes home 3 individual titles at Big Tens
The Washington Huskies women scored their most points in a conference championship since 1998 and won 3 individual titles over the weekend.
The Washington Huskies women were fourth, scoring their most points in a conference championship meet since 1998, and the men were sixth over the weekend at the Big Ten Track & Field Championships. The Husky men scored in every distance running event, the only team in the conference to do so, but it was the women who took home all three of Washington's individual conference titles. Junior Hana Moll won the pole vault, junior Ashley Schroeder won the javelin, and senior Chloe Thomas took home the crown in the 10,000 meters.
Six other Huskies finished second in the conference in their events: Amanda Moll in the pole vault, Evan Jenkins in the 10,000 meters, Teko Cates in the decathlon, Jimmy Rhoads in the pole vault, Julia David-Smith in the 5,000 meters, and Reuben Reina in the 5,000 meters. Hana waited more than two hours to enter the women's pole vault, by which point the bar was up at 14-6 1/4. That long wait shook her on the first attempt at that height, but she cleared on her second try.
Her twin sister, Amanda, whose season best coming into the meet was 14-3 1/4 after recovering from an indoor season injury, took the lead with a clearance at 15-2 1/4, tied for the second-best mark in the NCAA this season. Hana passed, then cleared 15-6 1/4 on her first attempt, while Amanda used up her three attempts at that bar. With the win secured, Hana raised the bar to 15-10, one inch higher than her NCAA record.
It was a breezy first attempt clearance to reset the record. She then attempted 16-1 3/4, just touching the bar enough to knock it down on her final attempt. ANOTHER @NCAA RECORD FOR HANA MOLL š šŗ B1G+ #B1GTF x @UWTrack pic.
