The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing a critical decision this offseason about which quarterback to keep, as it's unlikely they'll carry four on the 53-man roster.

Aaron Rodgers and Drew Allar are expected to occupy the active roster spots, but the final position will come down to either Will Howard or Mason Rudolph. Steelers insider Joe Starkey believes Rudolph could secure the spot because of his experience. "My guess is that the (Mike) McCarthy and the Steelers will want Rudolph’s experience behind Rodgers," Starkey wrote on Tuesday.

"But if Howard shows out in the spring and into training camp and the preseason, it feels like Rudolph’s job could be in jeopardy. " The Steelers selected Howard with the 185th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he didn't see any game action for Pittsburgh last season. With the team’s decision to draft Allar in the third round this year, he now has the advantage over Howard for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Since Howard lacks any NFL experience, it will be tough for the Steelers to keep him over Rudolph. Pittsburgh needs to ensure that at least one of its backup quarterbacks has NFL experience, especially given that Rodgers is nearly 43 and could go down early in the season.
